Hi, my name is Alex Swan and I am 16 years old and live in Sydney.
I first fell in love with minis when I was in year 7. At that time I was leasing a moody cremello mare. (riding horse) My parents
thought it would be a good experience for me to work at a miniature horse stud, plus I would loose some weight…So we went to
our first destination, “Cranage Miniature Horses”. We had a look around and got to know some of the horses… we fell in love.
My sister,(Steph, 14) and I could not wait to get to work! Whether it was cleaning
the stables, rugging, grooming or bonding with the foals we loved it!! We went to
our first show, the M.H.A.A State show at Tamworth, it was very daunting! My
sister and I were entered into Youth handler and we were so nervous! My horse was
“Cranage Fine Art”, a yearling overo filly. It was scary enough being entered into
Youth let alone having to practice 5 minutes before we were meant to go in!
I tried my hardest and I am sure nobody would have known I was a complete
beginner! My sister and I both were in the top 5! I couldn’t believe my luck!
Later on we went to the MHAA Nationals in Tatura, which was a very long trip!
My sister was awarded Reserve Youth Handler and I was given 3rd! I also showed
when extra hands were needed, I showed in best broken colour, classic head, get of
sire, classic trot, fancy dress(phantom of the opera) etc. I also have been to many
other shows. I recently had another big horse “Honey”(liver chestnut with flaxen
mane and tail), she was very sweet, but I just could not stay away from minis! I don’t
know what it is about them, they are like best friends.
Not long ago, I experienced a foal being born late at night. She was beautiful, “Cranage
Iced Noir” was born. I’ll always love minis and I hope one day I will have one of my
very own! I’m looking forward to next years MHAA Nationals at Sydney.
I’ll expect to see you there!
I am second from the left with “Cranage Fine Art”and my Sister Steph and “Cranage
Felize Natale”is pictured 3rd from the left.
